Careers Fair History

Find out more about the History of the Careers Fair and how the fair has moved forward every year.

Introduction

Careers Fair aims to ensure that South African youth are continually updated with Careers, Education, Training and Life Skills.

Past
The event began in 2000. Traditional Career Expo’s have been a fantastic information centre for learners to ask questions face-to-face and the growth of each exhibition has resulted in a superb range of careers on display.

It is imperative that information gained at any event is not forgotten; therefore a magazine was introduced in 2006. The CET24 magazine began as an 8 page issue, and then grew to 32 pages in 2007. The magazine reflects the information in the exhibition, with added inserts including a career listing, skills shortages and workbook style content for the classroom. The shelf-life of each magazine is 12 months. Today the magazine is named 'On Careers' so that it can partner the 'On Careers' Movie.

The 'On Careers' Movie was first shown in 2007. The 2006 research showed that our learners needed a visual perspective of career options, including skills shortages. In response to this research a career development movie was created to give learners insight into careers in Government, encourage careers with skills shortages and give a life skills segment on the environment. The cinema content has been supported over the years by Government Departments, Provincial Government, Corporates, Federations and Educational Organisations.
